Hikings

Nagarkot is a hill all round. the local people live in the hills. There are many hiking routes in and around Nagarkot. one can decide upon the time to walk and choose the routes for hiking. Most of the hiking routes are easy and people of all age can do hike in these routes. One can enjoy the beautiful mountain, landscape, valley, local village and peoples life style and many more during the hike.

Some popular hiking and short trek routes in and around Nagarkot are:

Nature walk Trail

It’s a refreshment walk through a Kusum community forest, goes along a part of Kathmandu valley cultural trekking trail. It is perfect alternative for those who don’t want full day hiking... Along the walk pine trees, rhododendron trees (Nepal’s national flower), chestnut, walnut, nettle wood, teak wood, reed can be seen. Animals and birds like Wild boar, jackal, tiger (sometime) deer, giant squirrel, Indian pangolin, black eagle, nightingle, owl, and wabbler can also be seen. This walk starts from our office, crossing through the forest and reaching to a small public junction market “Katike” and returning back to office trough a rough road in the edge of the forest

Village Excursion:

There are many villages in and around Nagarkot like Balauwapati village, Gairigaun village, Dhadagaun village, Bakhari gaun village, Thakauri gaun village, Gurung Gaun and many others. Village excursion is a best way to explore the local lifestyle, traditional cultures, houses and farming pattern of the local people living in those villages. In this excursion trip we will go and explore one of these many villages. We can also see nice landscape, panoramic view as well on the way.

Rohini Bhanjyang:

Rohini Bhanjyang is a small village of the Indian origin Aryan people. These people living in this village follow Hinduism and celebrate Hindu festivals. Most the people in this village are involved in agriculture or farming. During this walk we will pass through the village of Thakuri, who were once a ruling class of people in ancient Nepal. Similarly we also see a Gerung village on the way, which are world famous warriors and serve in the Indian army as well as in British regiment. Along the walk, we can have a nice view of the terrace field, green sceneries, and great panoramic view.

Changu Narayan Hike:

Changu Narayan is the oldest temple in nepal listed in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1979 ad. This is basically a hindu temple dedicated to lord vishnu but equally worshipped by the Buddhist. This site is famous for its wood carving and the stone carving of the ancient time dating back up to 4th century. Along the trail we will move through some village and a small forest and can have great view on the way as well witness the Nepali lifestyle of the people from different cast.

Sankhu Hike:

Sankhu is another ancient city of the newar people. This city was a busy city during the Nepal-Tibet trade but now it’s not that busy. Plenty of tourists visit this city to see the well preserved art. Wood carving, stone carving, old houses and the local people houses. On the hike we will go and visit the temple of goddess Vajra Yogini located in a small hill just above the city of Sankhu. It takes something 45 min to reach at the temple .This is the combine temple of Hindu and Buddhist.

Dhulikhel Hike:

Dhulikhel is typical newari town and a nice place to observe the high Himalayas, and the views easily compete with Nagarkot. It is a growing town along the Araniko highway and it lies 20km south of Nagarkot. It is lovely place famous for its scenic beauty and the old tradition. During the trip, nice panoramic view along with the green forest and the large farms can be seen on the way.
