Historical Perspective
Army of King Prithvi Narayan Shah (PNS) lead by the Prashu Ram Thapa got the victory over Naldum (Present Nagarkot) in 1858 AD. After the victory upon this area king PNS handed over this area to king of Bhaktapur. Later the king of Bhaktapur developed this area as an arsenal of Bhaktapur and after this Nagarkot got the present name. If we divide Nagarkot it becomes “nagar” and “kot” meaning “city” and “arsenal” respectively. Thus Nagarkot means arsenal of city.
Literal Meaning:
Literally in Nepali language, ‘Nagar’ means ‘city’ and ‘Kot’ means the ‘hill’. Thus being a hill above the city, this area got its name as Nagarkot.
